PicPerf Turbulence vs WP Rocket

WP Rocket is a WordPress caching and optimization plugin. PicPerf Turbulence is a platform-agnostic DNS proxy that rewrites HTML for any origin.

Bottom line: WP Rocket (and close peers like FlyingPress) belong on WordPress when you can install plugins and want cache, delay-JS, and preload from inside the CMS. PicPerf Turbulence belongs when the site is not WordPress, the theme is locked, or you want the same optimizer on WordPress, Squarespace, and a static marketing site from one DNS pattern.

PicPerf Turbulence WP Rocket / FlyingPress
Where it runs Edge reverse proxy Inside WordPress
Platforms Any HTML origin WordPress only
Install DNS records Plugin + license
Image CDN Included (PicPerf) Usually a separate add-on (Imagify, etc.)
Page cache Transformed HTML at the edge Page cache on the origin / host
Rollback Remove the CNAME Disable the plugin

WordPress-only vs any HTML

If every site you run is WordPress and you already live in the plugin admin, WP Rocket is a reasonable default. If you also run Squarespace, Shopify, or a static host, Turbulence is the same motion everywhere.

Images

WP Rocket does not replace an image CDN. PicPerf Turbulence rewrites eligible images through PicPerf. On WordPress you can also use the PicPerf plugin if you only want images and no proxy. That split is spelled out in PicPerf vs Turbulence.

Frequently asked questions

  • For WordPress sites that cannot install plugins, or for non-WordPress sites, yes. WP Rocket (and FlyingPress) are WordPress plugins that cache and optimize from inside WP. PicPerf Turbulence is a reverse proxy in front of any HTML site and does not require WordPress.

  • You can, but you will overlap on minify, lazy-load, and cache. Pick one page optimizer as the source of truth. If Turbulence is on the hostname, turn off the equivalent WP Rocket features to avoid double-rewriting.
