What is PicPerf Turbulence?
PicPerf Turbulence is a full-site frontend performance product: an edge HTML optimizer you turn on with DNS, not a code rewrite.

PicPerf Turbulence is a full-site frontend performance
product from PicPerf. You point a hostname at PicPerf’s edge (
optimize.picperf.io). Every HTML response is fetched from your
origin, rewritten, and cached. Visitors get lighter images, better font
loading, non-blocking third-party scripts, resource hints, and minified
same-origin CSS/JS — without changing the codebase.
What is an edge HTML optimizer?
An edge HTML optimizer is a reverse proxy, not a plugin and not a general CDN. It sits on the request path, transforms HTML, and stores the result close to the visitor. APIs, JSON, PDFs, and other non-HTML responses pass through unchanged. PicPerf Turbulence is that kind of product.
What it optimizes
- Images routed through PicPerf (modern formats, sizing, lazy load, dimensions)
- Adobe Fonts self-hosted at the edge; Google Fonts preloaded
- Known-safe third-party scripts loaded asynchronously
- Same-origin CSS and JavaScript minified and edge-cached
- Preconnect and DNS-prefetch for external origins
- Speculation Rules so supporting browsers prefetch in-site links
The full pipeline is documented at what gets optimized.
What it is not
- Not an image-only CDN — that is PicPerf images
- Not a RUM or Lighthouse runner — use DebugBear, SpeedCurve, or PSI
- Not a replacement for Cloudflare’s network — see Turbulence vs Cloudflare
- Not WordPress-only — unlike WP Rocket
How you turn it on
- Add the hostname and origin in the PicPerf dashboard.
- Verify ownership with a TXT record.
- Point a CNAME at
optimize.picperf.io. - Confirm
X-PicPerf-Optimized: trueon HTML responses.
Setup steps: getting started. Pricing starts at $19/month for one site with unlimited pages. Product page and trial.
